Kuwait Labour Law General provisions: Articles 1–6
Who the law covers and the terms it uses.
Kuwait Labour Law No. 6 of 2010 is the main law for private-sector employment. This opening chapter sets the ground rules: what the key terms mean, which workers and employers the law covers, and which groups are excluded or governed by other rules, such as marine work and the oil sector.
The most important principle for employers is in Article 6. The law sets minimum rights. A contract or company policy can give employees more, but any term that gives less than the law is void.
Start here if you are unsure whether the law applies to a role, or how a term like "worker", "employer" or "wage" is defined. Every other chapter builds on these definitions.
